Wind Mitigation inspection

WHAT IS A WIND MITIGATION INSPECTION?

If you are a homeowner with windstorm insurance, state regulations grant you eligibility for specific premium reductions. However, these discounts are inaccessible without a proper inspection. If you haven’t undergone a windstorm insurance inspection at your current residence, it’s highly likely that you are overpaying for your windstorm insurance!

During a wind mitigation inspection, a certified inspector assesses critical factors that could potentially reduce the extent of damage your home may sustain during a hurricane or severe windstorm. These factors encompass various categories, including the type of exterior construction, the shape and construction techniques of the roof, the age of the roof covering, the protection of doors and windows, and the year the home was constructed. Additionally, the elevation of the property in relation to wind speed may also be taken into consideration.

Our company stands at the forefront of Wind Mitigation Inspections. We collaborate closely with other industry leaders to educate inspectors on the correct procedures for conducting these inspections. You’ll receive a meticulously detailed report that surpasses your insurance carrier’s expectations, eliminating the need for a carrier re-inspection hassle.

DISCOUNT FACTORS:

There are three primary factors influencing wind mitigation discounts:

  1. The presence of wind-resistant construction features The greater the number of wind-resistant features your property possesses, the higher the overall discount you’ll receive.

  2. Location Discounted wind insurance rates are adjusted based on the specific location of your property within the state.

  3. Property value The insurance premiums increase with the value of condos, townhomes, duplexes, or homes. Consequently, the value of the discounts increases as the property’s value rises.

WIND MITIGATION INSPECTION ELEMENTS

A Windstorm Mitigation Inspection encompasses the evaluation of the following components:

  1. Date of roof installation and compliance with the 2001 or newer building code.
  2. Type of roof deck and the method of fastening the deck to trusses/rafters.
  3. Type of roof-to-wall attachment.
  4. Roof Geometry (Shape).
  5. Presence of secondary water resistance (Peel and Stick).
  6. Existence of opening protection (e.g., wood panels, shutters, impact windows, etc.).

We scan and digitally deliver your inspection along with the appropriate 4-Page form, OIR-B1-1802 (Rev. 02/12), and necessary photographs. If you provide us with your Insurance Agent’s email address, we’d be delighted to electronically send them copies of the report.
